104th annual Northern Lehigh Halloween Parade set for Saturday

All decked out.

The Ace of Spades isn't likely to be the only "card" featured prominently at this year's Greater Northern Lehigh Halloween Parade.Sponsored by the Northern Lehigh Events Committee, the 104th annual parade will start at 6 p.m. Saturday. The rain date is Saturday, Nov. 5.It will form at 4:30 p.m. at South and Main Street in Slatington. Streets in the boroughs of Slatington and Walnutport will be closed to traffic as of 4 p.m.From there, the parade follows Main Street through Slatington, over the General Morgan Bridge, and continues into Walnutport, where it then turns onto Lincoln Avenue. Walking groups and small floats are picked up at the Walnutport Playground, while large floats pull into the shopping center parking lot for unloading.Allison Belfonti, committee member, said the theme of this year's parade is "Board Games Galore"."We have lot of really interesting entries that are Halloween themed; everybody from Boy Scouts to Cub Scouts, dance troops, over 10 fire companies," Belfonti said. "The goal is to give a good old time fashioned parade, make sure everybody has fun, show a lot of creativity."Unfortunately, Belfonti noted there is no grand marshal for this year's parade because no applications were submitted by Northern Lehigh Middle School students who would have led the parade as King and Queen.Fortunately, the Northern Lehigh High School Interact Club will again be on hand to collect canned goods throughout the parade that will be donated to the local food bank, Belfonti said."We're hoping community members will donate," she said. "We'd love to have more people involved."Anyone who would like to volunteer on the committee, or with questions about the parade, may call 484-265-1028.
