The Preceptor Alpha Upsilon chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority held its last meeting at the home of Cathy Santee. The program included a demonstration by Santee on her dog, Jackson's, first place win at obedience school.During the business session, members discussed an upcoming Thanksgiving-themed visit to the Geriatric Center at St. Luke's Miners Memorial Hospital in Coaldale. Also, final orders were taken for the Cake Pans by Karen fundraiser and reservations were accepted for the Oct. 29 dinner theatre event at Park View Inn, Summit Hill.The next meeting will be held Oct. 26, at the Hazleton home of Pat Kibbler.Senior citizensThe Tamaqua Seniors met Oct. 20 at the Tamaqua Community Center with 79 members in attendance. Two new members, Pete and Charlene Beiber, were welcomed.President Jean Machamer conducted the business session and provided inspirational readings.Rose Valle provided the invocation, entitled "The Changing Seasons."Secretary Joan Ann Garber and Vice President Doris Brobst provided reports. Alice Miller is reportedly hospitalized and a get well card was sent to Isabel Brode.This week's meeting will include a Halloween celebration with a costume contest and Chinese Auction.The group meets every Thursday, at 1 p.m., at the community center. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join.Every meeting is followed by social and pinochle games.Leadership HalloweenThe Tamaqua Area High School Leadership Council will sponsor its Safe Trick or Treat Night this Thursday, from 7- 9 p.m., in the Tamaqua Senior High School gymnasium.The event is free and open to the public. Costumes are highly recommended.Trinity UCCRev. Thomas Reinsel, interim pastor, will officiate at the 10 a.m. worship service Sunday in Trinity United of Church of Christ. Sunday school classes will meet at 8:45 a.m. and the session will include a Halloween party.Choir rehearsal is held Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. Also this Thursday, the Search Committee will meet at 7 p.m.Set up help will be needed following this Sunday's service for the Fall Rummage Sale.Officials are interested in the creation of an email chain to provide timely updates on congregation information, such as coming events and cancellations.
