Invitation to West End Rotary Club's Octoberfest and Car Show

What would October be if there wasn't an Octoberfest to attend?

Thanks to the West End Rotary Club, you can experience Octoberfest, complete with authentic German food, music, biergarten and pig roast, highlighted by an old-fashioned cakewalk and tricky tray on Sunday, October 23, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Polk Township Fire Hall in Kresgeville.Lunch platters will be available, as well as an a la carte menu for adults and children.According to Jeff Widmer, a WERC member, "While the West End event is relatively new, Oktoberfest celebrations have taken place throughout the world for more than a century. The original Oktoberfest occurred in Munich, in the Bavarian region of Germany, on October 12, 1810. Today it ranks as one of the world's largest fairs, attracting more than five million visitors each year."In addition to authentic German food, music, pig roast and a biergarten, you can also enjoy a Car Show, too. The classic car show will be held on the fire company's ground.WERC invites all classic car owners to showcase your pride and joy.The registration fee is $12 at the door.Each car show registrant will receive a $2 voucher for an Oktoberfest meal or a la carte menu items. Car classes run from pre-1940 through today and include stock and custom vehicles, rods, trucks, motorcycles and work in progress. Complimentary bagels and coffee will be served during registration, from 10 a.m. to noon.Car enthusiasts can attend the car show free. You can vote for the Peoples' Choice award with the voting taking place from noon to 2 p.m. Prizes will be awarded at 3 p.m. with dash plaques given to the first 125 vehicles.A vendor section will also be provided at $25 per table.Proceeds from the event will benefit Operation: Touch of Home, the Monroe County-based nonprofit that builds morale among U.S. troops by sending donated supplies to local service men and women serving in Afghanistan and Iraq, and Operation Warm, a nonprofit charitable organization dedicated to distributing new, high quality winter wear to children living in need."You must come to this event to show support for our troops and care and compassion for the children," says Octoberfest chair and WERC president elect, Jill Rehrig.For more information on Oktoberfest contact Jill Rehrig at (570) 778-3846 and for Car Show info, contact Ed Gallagher at (610) 657-6196.
