Tractor Supply Company ready to cultivate customers

Looking for dog food or chicken feed, material to mend a fence, a lady's stylish shirt?

Well, look no further than the brand new Tractor Supply Company in Brodheadsville, located just off Rt. 209 behind the fireworks barn and across the street from the law firm of Merwine, Hanyon and Kaspszyk.Saturday, Oct. 15, the long-awaited newest business to the West End opened its doors at 8 a.m.There will be a Grand Opening on Thursday, Oct. 20 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9 a.m.Bob Hodgson, the store manager, says there will be all kinds of exciting events planned for this Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday during regular store hours, which are Mondays-Saturdays, 8 a.m.-8 p.m. and Sundays, 9 a.m.-6 p.m.The Pocono Old Tyme Farm Equipment Association will have many of their tractors and engines on display. There will be a kids' pedal pulling contest, horse and pony rides, a petting zoo, four different animal rescue organizations present with adorable pets for adoption and groomers will be giving free nail clippings, just to name a few of the activities available.Members of local 4H and FFA (Future Farmers of America and other organizations will be present."It will be an opportunity of exposure for local organizations to make themselves known to the community," says Hodgson.The Tractor Supply Company began in 1938 as a mail order tractor parts business by Charles E. Schmidt, Sr. of Chicago, Illinois. Today the successful retail farm and ranch store chain has grown to 1,043 stores in 44 states, serving full and part-time farmers and ranchers, hobby farmers, rural homeowners and contractors.The beauty of The Tractor Supply Company is, there is something for everyone ... men, women and children. You can find feed, pet supplies, fencing, mowers, tools, work clothing, boots, shoes, toys, lawn furniture and much more. Everything except tractors.Pat and Jim Keyes of Kunkletown were very excited about The Tractor Supply Company store in Brodheadsville because, "I won't have to run to Lehighton, Hazleton or Nazareth. I get all my chicken feed and dog food here," says Pat."We have no department stores here so we welcome it and they have good store hours," adds Jim.Martin Motto of Hamilton Square says that he's happy it's here."I buy a lot of chicken feed and other stuff. It's a one-stop shop for me," he says."We love Tractor Supply. Being here saves us a trip to Lehighton," says Pat Guckenberger of Gilbert.
