Luzerne driver in Schuylkill crash

A Luzerne County driver was injured in a one vehicle crash about 8:50 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15, in Schuylkill County. It was one of four crashes probed by state police at Frackville over the past weekend on county roadways.

Troopers said Melissa Erickson, 23, of Hazleton, was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Tracker southbound on SR61 in New Castle Township, when she lost control while negotiating a left curve. The car struck an embankment along the west berm, then rolled over onto the drivers' side before sliding about 100 feet south.The car came to final rest in the right lane of the drivers' side. Erickson was flown by Medevac helicopter to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, for what troopers said was a moderate injury. Troopers said Erickson was cited fro driving on roadways laned for traffic and not wearing a seat belt.A one vehicle crash occurred on Saturday about 12:30 p.m. along Interstate 81 in Kline Township. Troopers said Michal Bostik, 35, of Pottsville, was driving a 1994 Cadillac Eldorado northbound, a half mile north of the McAdoo exit, when she lost control. The vehicle struck a steel ribbon guide rail on the east side causing it to skid diagonally across the northbound lanes and center medial. The vehicle came to rest inside the southbound lanes.Bostik and front seat passenger, Anthony Brown, 39, Wilkes-Barre, were flown by PennStar helicopter to St. Luke's Hospital, Fountain Hill, for treatment of moderate injuries. A back seat passenger, Samanthia Sherwood, 24, of Pottsville, was not injured.McAdoo Fire Company and ambulance personnel responded to the scene.Another one vehicle crash occurred along I81 in Frailey Township, about 6 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 16. Troopers said Diann Dodge, 69, of Alexandria, Va., was driving a 2007 Ford Taurus northbound when she lost control when she swerved to avoid another vehicle which was changing lanes. The car went onto the west berm and struck the guard rail. Dodge sustained a minor injury in the crash. She was cited for driving on roadways laned for traffic.Another crash on I81, in Kline Township, occurred about 5:20 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 14. Troopers said Alex L. Guinup, 54, of Middletown, N.Y., was driving a 1995 Pontiac Firebird southbound when the car went onto the berm causing Guinup to lose control. The car began to roll over several times along the berm before coming to rest on its roof.Guinup and three passengers were taken to the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Hospital, in Plains Township, for treatment of injuries.McAdoo Fire Company and ambulance responded to the scene.
