Solar energy information presented to JT school board

A solar energy presentation was presented at Monday evening's Jim Thorpe Area School Board meeting. The presentation was given by Dr. Rex D'Agostino, Sr. Vice President of Business Development at MetroTek Electrical Services.

D'Agostino discussed what MetroTek does, especially with solar energy, and how their company could work with JTASD."We are renewable energy advocates. We're interested in trying to drive down the cost of electricity," he stated.MetroTek works on electrical construction, solar energy, wind energy, high voltage, and telecom. They specialize in commercial, institutional, municipal, and industrial areas.D'Agostino stated that if the district decided to go with solar energy, it would be a cost savings. MetroTek guarantees that whatever the districts current utility rate is, with solar energy it will be less for at least 20 years.D'Agostino also discussed that if the district is interested, MetroTek would do the assessments, engineering, permitting, installation, and commissioning. There would also be a 20 year warranty with 24/7 emergency service available. The presentation was for an informational purpose and no decisions were made at the meeting. Currently the school board is just looking into solar energy as an option. The board will continue gathering research and discussing the option of solar energy. Also during the meeting, the board voted to offer a computer education program to the community. The program would include introductions to internet, email, Mac's, PC's, and Word. The program would be available to the district residents and it would be free for them.Further details will be decided on later.
