A bear was struck and killed by a car in a Schuylkill County incident. State police at Frackville said the accident occurred about 10 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 10, along SR61, a mile south of the Schuylkill Mall, in New Castle Township.

Troopers said Nicholas Doyle, of Schuylkill Haven, was operating a 2003 Honda Element southbound in the left lane when a large black bear began crossing the road from the west side.Doyle was unable to avoid striking the bear and hit it with the rigth front of his car.After impact the car traveled about 115 feet and came to final rest on the east berm partially in the left lane.The bear traveled about 75 feet and came to rest on the west berm.Doyle was not injured but his vehicle had to be towed from the scene.A deputy wildlife consevation officer was called to the scene to remove the bear.
