The Hotel American in Mauch Chunk, one of the most moder hostelries in the area, has taken on another new look, thanks to its enterprizing proprietor B. W. Freed. Added to the hotel, located on Market Street, is a luxurously furnished lounge, which doubles as an apartment for late arrivals when the hotel's accommodations are taxed to the utmost. It is located to the left of the lobby. The new lounge is part of the building, which was burned out in a fire on March 15, 1953.
