Rush-Ryan seniors

The Rush, Ryan and Delano Senior Citizens Inc. met Sept. 27 at the Ryan Township Fire Company with 43 members in attendance. President Eleanor Schmerfeld conducted the business meeting.Vice President Rhoda Purnell offered an invocation. Reports were presented by secretary Florina Martin and treasurer Shirley Becker. Birthday greetings were extended to Betty Brobst and Julia Clouser. Get well cards were sent to Jane Springer and Helene Clouser.Florina Martin and Shirley Becker provided inspirational readings.The group meets the second and fourth Tuesday of every month at the fire company.TEPTOThe Tamaqua Elementary Parent Teacher Organization will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 12. The meeting will be held in the Tamaqua Elementary School Library.The membership drive will continue through Oct. 31. Membership in the organization is required in order to participate in school functions.The group will discuss plans for an upcoming fundraising event. Vice President Doris Brobst conducted the business session and provided her monthly report, announcing that Jane Springer, Gladys Weaver and Helene Clouser are all recuperating at home.Rose Valle provided the invocation, entitled "Autumn Time."Secretary Joan Ann Garber provided her report. Cake and ice cream were served as the group celebrated August and September birthdays for 14 members.The group meets every Thursday, at 1 p.m., at the community center. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join.Every meeting is followed by social and pinochle games.SS. Peter and PaulThe Holy Name Society of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church will meet at 8 p.m. this Thursday. The meeting will be preceded by a Mass, which will begin at 7:30 p.m.First Friday observances will be held next week. Communion calls will be made on Thursday for residents of Hometown and Coaldale. All others will begin Friday at 9 a.m. First Friday confessions will be heard at 7:30 a.m., followed by Mass and devotions at 8 a.m.The parish will celebrate its 100th anniversary with a special Mass on Oct. 16, at 3 p.m., with Bishop John Barres as main celebrant and homilist. The special Mass will be followed by a reception at the West End Banquet Hall in Mahanoy City.St. John LutheranThe Rev. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at the 9:15 a.m. worship service this Harvest Home Sunday in St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. Donations of non-perishable food items will be accepted and benefit the food bank. Sunday school and Confirmation classes will meet at 10:30 a.m.Also on Sunday, the Allegro Bell Choir will rehearse at noon.Activities for next week include: Monday, the Congregational Council will meet at 7 p.m.; Thursday, Chime rehearsal at 5:30 p.m., Angel Choir rehearsal at 6 p.m., Shepherd Choir meets at 6:30 p.m., Chancel/Adult Choir rehearses at 6:30 p.m. and the Property Committee will meet at 7 p.m.
