The meeting of the Panther Valley Golden Agers of Sept. 26 opened with a prayer and pledge of allegiance and the singing of "God Bless America."Vice President Shirley Pavlick read the poem "Summer into Fall."Minnie Kennedy led the group singing.Hospitality for November and December will be Fran Golder and Jenny Snyder.The first indoor rummage sale of items left over from the Birthday Table went well.It will also be held at the next meeting.The next meeting will be held Oct. 10 at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph's Hall, Summit Hill. Bingo will be played after the meeting.Yearly membership dues are now being collected.Summit HillFall cleanup plansSummit Hill Borough officials have announced the scheduled pickup of refuse and junk in conjunction with the annual fall cleanup program.The refuse will be picked up on Thursday, Oct. 6, on the east side of town, along with Knepper's Trailer Court and East and West White Bear drives.Pickups on the west side of town, along with Laurel Drive and East and West Mountaintop roads, will be made on Tuesday, Oct. 11.Among the items that will be picked up are tires (no more than five), tire rims, auto body parts, refrigerators, freezers, vending machines, dehumidifiers, water coolers, heat pumps, washers, dryers and stoves.All items must have all chemicals removed from them and their doors must be taken off.In addition, up to 10 bags of garbage will be collected.St. Paul LutheranThe Rev. Roy Koehler will be the supply pastor at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Summit Hill, on Sunday, Oct. 9.A retired pastor from Walnutport, he will preside at the 10:30 a.m. worship service.St. Paul's will hold a congregational council meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 11, at 7 p.m. in the church.The church's Sunday school will meet at 9 a.m. In addition to weekly gatherings, the school participants' outside related activities include a corn maze visit and hayride at Bear Rock Junction on Sunday, Oct. 16, at 3 p.m.Adults are needed to serve as chaperones and drivers.This outing will be held weather permitting.Scripture sharingThe weekly scripture sharing sessions at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Summit Hill, has changed to Wednesday nights at 7 o'clock in the parish rectory.Participants will be examining the changes to the Liturgy due to the incorporation of the Third Edition of the Roman Missal (English Translation) on the First Sunday of Advent (Nov. 26-27).There will be a cursory look at these changes during Mass beginning in mid-October.LansfordTrick or TreatLansford Mayor Ron Hood has announced Trick or Treat Night in the borough will be held on Monday, Oct. 31, from 6-8 p.m.Additional police coverage will be scheduled.Persons welcoming children to their homes are asked to have their properties well-lighted.NesquehoningLadies auxiliaryThe regular monthly meeting of the Ladies Auxiliary to Nesquehoning Memorial VFW Post 8008 will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 11, beginning at 6:30 p.m., at the Post Home.President Amanda Breiner will preside.All members are invited to attend this important meeting.Upcoming events and changes on both the auxiliary, department and national levels will be discussed.CoaldaleLions ClubThe Coaldale Lions will meet on Tuesday, Oct. 11 and Tuesday, Oct. 25 at the Viennese Villa in town.
