Accident probe leads to arrest

An investigation of an accident by members of the Pocono Mountain Regional police led to an arrest for an outstanding warrant.

Police said about 4:29 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 2, officers were dispatched to a crash on SR196 near the Domino's Pizza shop.The investigation revealed that Corey Gibbs, 21, of South Sterling, Wayne County, was operating a Ford Focus northbound when he rear-ended a Nissan Cube driven by Mary Sommers, 46, of Tobyhanna.Sommers and a juvenile passenger were injured and taken to the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg. Both vehicles had heavy damage and had to be towed.A check revealed that Gibbs was wanted by the U.S. Department of the Army for desertion. He was taken into custody and placed in the county prison pending extradition to Kentucky.
