Safety on the highways?

To the Editor:

This letter is just a short note for the public.Number one, I find it amazing that PennDOT keeps reminding everyone about safety on the highways. District 5 administrators either don't know what safety is or don't care about safety. It is now going on two weeks since the storm washed the gravel on the truck runoff ramp out. The ramp is now closed to trucks. The dumb or stupid sign on the top says run off ramp closed, use truck pull of. My what intelligence. All trucks pull off and gear down.Number two, my question is how does the truck pull off prevent a runaway vehicle? But, oh I see what they're saying, the truck should go straight onto Route 209 and kill somebody or go into the garage. My what intelligence for safety. District 5 is full of safety issues. Just ask the public who travels the highways.Whoever designed that ramp should quit today as it would take about 20 minutes to fix it temporarily.P.S. After I completed this letter, 9/21/11, at 4:15 p.m., a truck pulled onto the runoff ramp, hitting one of the barrels. I also have a picture of the accident.Tom C. GerhardWeatherly
