State police at Frackville reported investigating a one-vehicle crash about 7:14 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 29, along SR61 at Darkwater Road, in New Castle Township, Schuylkill County.

Troopers said Joseph H. Smith, 59, of Columbia, Md., and Melvin R. Nye, 36, of Sunbury, were both southbound. Smith, operating a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox, made a right turn onto Darkwater Road and proceeded to make a U-turn.He then attempted to turn left onto 61 northbound but failed to yield the right-of-way to Nye. The Equinox struck a utility trailer attached to Nye's 2005 Dodge Ram 3500 truck.No one was injured. Troopers cited Smith for a stop sign violation.
