Fillies, Wreckers sweep in volleyball

Marian and Weatherly both picked up volleyball wins in action from Thursday.

The Fillies remained undefeated by cruising past Minersville, while the Wreckers swept Millersburg.GIRLS VOLLEYBALLMinersville-MarianMarian swept Minersville with ease, winning 25-6, 25-8, 25-6 in volleyball action.Marykate Sherkness led the Fillies (8-0) with 17 kills. She also had seven digs and five aces.Nicole Collevechio recorded ten digs, while Abby O'Donnell dished out 26 assists. Rebecca Hartman added ten aces and seven digs.Marian's JV also won, 25-7, 25-19.Millersburg-WeatherlyWeatherly picked up its fourth win of the year by sweeping Millersburg at home, 25-12, 25-15, 25-9.Sarah Dolinsky led the Lady Wreckers (4-8) with 11 kills, nine digs and two blocks. Alyssa Miller contributed ten kills and five digs.Alicia Panzarella helped out with 11 digs, five kills and four aces.Jim Thorpe-LourdesLourdes gained a sweep of Jim Thorpe, winning 25-18, 25-16, 25-14.The Olympians received four aces and two kills from Shannon Green while Alex Ventrella contributed six blocks. Riley Carroll also chipped in with five assists.In the JV match, Lourdes won 25-20, 25-18.Tamaqua-Pine GrovePine Grove topped Tamaqua on the volleyball court and won 25-16, 25-22, 25-18.The Lady Raiders were paced by Sarah Paluck's ten digs and five. Teammate Sarah Lesisko chipped in with nine service points, six digs and three aces.FIELD HOCKEYNo. Lehigh-So. LehighSouthern Lehigh scored a goal in each half and knocked off Northern Lehigh, 2-0.Kelsey King and Kristen Moisey had the goals for the Lady Spartans (10-0).The Bulldogs drop to 6-4-1.SOCCERTamaqua-No. SchuylkillPaul Caputo scored a pair of goals to help North Schuylkill gain a 3-1 Schuylkill League Division I win over visiting Tamaqua.Caputo opened the scoring with the only first-half goal of the contest and added the final tally to give the Spartans some insurance.The winners also received a goal from Evan Hollen and an assist from Stefan Smith.For Tamaqua (5-4; 5-3), which held a 14-10 edge in shots on goal and a 6-2 advantage in corners, Josh Delp scored off a feed from Steven Billet.GOLFMVC TournamentEarlier this week, Stroudsburg's Jim Catina fired a 69 at the Delaware Water Gap Country Club to take the championship at the Mountain Valley Conference Tournament.Catina won by an impressive nine strokes over teammate Riley Hogan, who carded a 78.Pleasant Valley's Kyle Adamonis, who also competed in the Championship Flight, was one of three that finished with a 79. The Mounties' Evan Choy, however, earned third-place honores.Stroudsburg also took team honors, finishing 50 strokes ahead of East Stroudsburg South. The Bears earned a third-place finish.Lehighton's PJ Salerno turned in a solid effort with an 83, which was good enough second place in the Second Flight. PV's Brian Denaro was the next best local finisher, posting an 85 in the First Flight.
