JROTC meeting

A JROTC meeting will be held on Monday, Oct. 17 in the JROTC classroom. Election of officers will take place. All parents are invited.Summit HillMeetings changedThe Summit Hill Water Authority has announced two changes in meeting dates.The October meeting of the board will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 12, and the November meeting will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 9. Both sessions will begin at 7 p.m.Louis Alexander, chairman, will be in charge of the meetings.SHCIO to meetThe monthly meeting of the Summit Hill Community Improvement Organization will be held on Monday, Oct. 3, at 7 p.m. in the Summit Hill Borough Building. President Maxine Vermillion will be in charge. Interested residents and members are welcome to attend.Authority officeThe office of the Coaldale-Lansford-Summit Hill Joint Sewer Authority has moved and is now located at 162 W. Ridge St., Lansford. The office's administrative manager is Tonia Collevechio, who can be reached at (570) 645-2445.Food distributionThe Summit Hill Food Pantry distributes food boxes to eligible families in town on a monthly basis. Deliveries are usually made on the fourth Tuesday of the month between 10 a.m. and noon.For information about the Summit Hill Food Pantry, call Rose Marie Armon, (570) 645-3604 or Sandra Hill, 645-4617.Fall cleanup plansSummit Hill Borough officials have announced the scheduled pickup of refuse and junk in conjunction with the annual Fall cleanup program.The refuse will be picked up on Thursday, Oct. 6, on the east side of town, along with Knepper's Trailer Court and East and West White Bear drives.Pickups on the west side of town, along with Laurel Drive and East and West Mountaintop roads, will be made on Tuesday, Oct. 11.Among the items that will be picked up are tires (no more than five), tire rims, auto body parts, refrigerators, freezers, vending machines, dehumidifiers, water coolers, heat pumps, washers, dryers and stoves.All items must have all chemicals removed from them and their doors must be taken off.In addition, up to 10 bags of garbage will be collected.League to meetThe Anthracite Little League Association (Summit Hill and Nesquehoning) will hold its monthly meeting on Sunday, Oct. 9, at 6 p.m. in the Summit Hill Borough Building. The program will feature Joseph Paluck speaking on Heart Healthy. The 2012 club dues are now payable to Connie Kravelk, treasurer.Anyone interested in becoming a member should come to a meeting.Conservation ClubThe October meeting of the Nesquehoning Conservation Club will be Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 6:30 p.m. at MapleShade Meadows. There will be a meeting of the trustees at 5:30 p.m. before the regular meeting to review the club records.Members are also reminded to bring in their Redners Save-A-Tapes.Special MassA special Mass will be held to commemorate the Feast Day of St. Therese at the Grotto in New Columbus.
