The Tamaqua Seniors met Sept. 8 at the Tamaqua Community Center with 87 members in attendance. One new member, Betty Connely, was welcomed to the group.President Jean Machamer conducted the business session and provided an inspirational reading.Rose Valle provided the invocation, entitled "Little Acts of Kindness."Vice president Doris Brobst and secretary Joan Ann Garber provided their reports.Doris Skeath was added to the sick list.Members were treated to pizza and drinks.The group meets every Thursday, at 1 p.m., at the community center. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join.Every meeting is followed by social and pinochle games.Food driveSt. John United Church of Christ is sponsoring a food drive to benefit the Tamaqua Community Food Bank. Volunteers will be at Boyer's Food Market, 210 Cedar St., Tamaqua, now through Oct. 2, from 5 to 6 p.m., to accept donations of non-perishable food items and monetary donations.Donors will receive a coupon for a free bowl of soup, which can be redeemed Oct. 3, between noon and 6 p.m., during St. John's annual rummage sale.St. Peter's UnionThe Rev. Cheryl Moore will officiate at the 9 a.m. worship service Sunday in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville.The service will include the celebration of Holy Communion.Also on Sunday, the Confirmation class will meet at 1 p.m.; Daisies, Cub Scouts and Brownies meet at 6 p.m.A service of Ordination for the Rev. Gary Rarick will be held this Sunday, at 3 p.m.The service will be followed by a time of fellowship.Activities for next week include: Tuesday, theater rehearsal at 6:30 p.m.; Thursday, Prayer group meets at 5 p.m.The choirs rehearse on Thursdays. Next week's schedule will include: Cherubs at 6:30 p.m.; Juniors at 7 p.m.; and Seniors at 7:45 p.m.
