Quick response by area firefighters early Sunday morning saved an elderly Kelayres woman and her home from heavy fire damage. The fire was reported just before 6 a.m. at the home located along Third Street. Fire companies from numerous Schuylkill and Carbon counties were dispatched when it was reported at least one person was trapped in the fire. An elderly female occupant was removed safely from the two and one half story wood frame single family dwelling. The fire appeared to be centered in the rear portion of the home.
