Large amount of jewelry stolen

A large amount of jewelry was reported stolen from a Carbon County home. It was one of two theft incidents reported by state police at Fern Ridge.

Troopers said Derryck Griffith, 47, of 245 Brittany Drive, Valley View Estates, in Penn Forest Township, returned home about 10 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 22, and saw an individual in the kitchen area. The intruder fled the home with a black garbage bag which contained about $12,000 worth of jewelry and watches.The suspect was described as being about 25 years old with short red hair and was wearing black coveralls. Entry was gained through an unsecured door, troopers said.Troopers are probing a theft incident at a construction site for a new Kinsleys Market along Weir Lake Road, in Chestnuthill Township, Monroe County. Troopers said three heavy metal storm grates were removed from the site sometime between 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 20 and 6:30 a.m. on Sept. 21. The grates are the property of Muschlitz Excavating Inc., of Bath.
