Rush-Ryan seniors

The Rush, Ryan and Delano Senior Citizens Inc. met Sept. 13 at the Ryan Township Fire Company with 41 members in attendance. President Eleanor Schmerfeld conducted the business meeting. One new member, Paul Kunkel, was welcomed.Chaplain Kathleen Valentine offered an invocation and moment of silence was held in honor of those who lost their lives during the 9-11 terror attacks. Reports were presented by secretary Florina Martin and treasurer Shirley Becker. Carol Sedlak and Jane Springer were added to the sick list.Julia Clouser, Florina Martin and Shirley Becker provided inspirational readings.The group meets the second and fourth Tuesday of every month at the fire company.Movie nightTamaqua Youth Ministries will present the movie "To Save A Life" on Sept. 25. The movie night will be held at Bethany Evangelical Congregation Church, 223 E. Broad St. and is free.Geared to young people in grades 6-12, the film addresses the many challenges teens face today.The presentation will begin at 7 p.m. For further information, call (570) 668-2520.Calvary UMThe Rev. Brian Reading will officiate at this Sunday's 10:25 a.m. worship service in Calvary Evangelical United Methodist Church. Sunday school classes meet at 9:15 a.m.Also on Sunday, an evening of praise, worship and Bible study will begin at 6:30 p.m.Wednesday prayer and praise services are held at 7 p.m. in the church.St. Peter's UnionThe Rev. Cheryl Moore will officiate at the 9 a.m. worship service Sunday in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. Sunday school classes will meet at 10:15 a.m. and the Confirmation class will meet at 11:30 a.m.Also on Sunday, a service of installation will be held for Rev. Moore, beginning at 3 p.m., to be followed by a fellowship covered dish dinner. Daisies, Cub Scouts and Brownies meet at 6 p.m.Activities for next week include: Monday, Women's Bible study session at 6 p.m.; Tuesday, theater rehearsal at 6:30 p.m.; Thursday, Prayer group meets at 5 p.m.The choirs rehearse on Thursdays. Next week's schedule will include: Juniors at 7 p.m.; and Seniors at 7:45 p.m.Cross countryThe Tamaqua Cross Country Boosters will meet Sept. 29, at 6:30 p.m., at Sisters Cantina and Restaurant. Anyone interested in supporting the team is welcome to attend.Internet securityA free Internet security class, entitled "the Dangers We Face," will be held Sept. 29 at the New Life Assembly of God Church on Schuylkill Avenue.
