Whitehall zoning board says pet pig can remain at home

CATASAUQUA, Pa. (AP) - A Pennsylvania woman's porcine pet can stay.

The Whitehall Township zoning board approved a variance Tuesday that will allow Holly Hacker to keep her potbellied pig, Porkus Maximus, at her home.Hacker had been issued a citation for violating the township's livestock rules by keeping the pig at her home.Hacker's attorney says Porkus has a dog house and a doggie door.Hacker herself says the dog sometimes sleeps in her bed. She argued Porkus wasn't being kept for sale or profit and therefore shouldn't qualify as livestock. The board voted 4-1 to approve the variance after Hacker presented a petition with more than 300 signatures from neighbors who wanted the pig to stay put.
