Halloween parade

Registration forms are now available for the 45th Annual Tamaqua Halloween Parade set for Tuesday, Oct. 25, beginning at 7 p.m. Forms are available at the Tamaqua Chamber of Commerce Office, 114 W. Broad St. Completed forms must include the name, address and phone number of a contact person, as well as the entrant's theme, number of floats, vehicles and marchers.All participants will be called in advance of the parade with their position, set up location and entry number. The rain date is Wednesday, Oct. 26.There is no entry fee. Cash prizes will be awarded for the top entries as determined by a panel of judges. Categories include Best of Show, Marching Units and Floats/Motorized.The parade will once again be sponsored by the Tamaqua Lions Club, with assistance from the Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce. Participants will assemble at the east end of the borough by 6:45 p.m. and the line of march will then head west on Broad Street.For more information on the parade, call (570) 668-1880 or email

tamaquachamber@verizon.net.The Tamaqua Lions Club is also accepting donations of used eyeglasses, which may be dropped off at the chamber office.Senior citizensThe Tamaqua Seniors met Sept. 15 at the Tamaqua Community Center with 83 members in attendance. President Jean Machamer conducted the business session and provided an inspirational reading.Rose Valle provided the invocation, entitled "Late Summer Day." Vice President Doris Brobst and secretary Joan Ann Garber provided their reports.Helen Patrick and Joan Boner were added to the sick list.Discussions were held on an upcoming Chinese Auction, a Christmas party in December and the celebration of members' August and September birthdays, which will be held at the Sept. 29 meeting.The group meets every Thursday, at 1 p.m., at the community center.Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join.Every meeting is followed by social and pinochle games.Summer concertThe Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce ends its Summer Concert Series this Thursday with a performance by the Todd Wolfe Band, playing the blues.The concert will be held on the platform at the Tamaqua Railroad Station, from 6-8 p.m.Bring a lawn chair or blanket and enjoy an evening of free musical entertainment.For more information, call (570) 668-1880.Open houseAn open house will be held at the Tamaqua Area Senior High School on Sept. 28, beginning at 7 p.m. Principal Stephen Toth encourages parents of all students in grades 9-12 to attend.The evening will begin in the district's auditorium, located between the senior high and middle schools.St. Vincent DePaul SocietyThe Annual St. Vincent DePaul Society Mass will be held Sept. 25, at 3 p.m., in St. Jerome's Catholic Church.
