Slatington Memorial Park dedication set

Slatington Memorial Park, located on the site of the old Slatington High School, will be formally dedicated as part of a ceremony and free public concert on Sunday, Sept. 25, from 4-6 p.m.The park is located at Main & Second streets in Slatington.The festivities will begin at 4 p.m., with a brief dedication ceremony featuring local dignitaries from the Borough of Slatington, Northern Lehigh Future Focus, Lehigh County, Lehigh Valley Chamber Foundation, Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and others, all of whom played a role in the planning, financing and construction of the park.In addition, members of several graduating classes who donated money for Victorian-style benches will be attendance.Class members are encouraged to bring along memorabilia from their time at Slatington High School for display on tables.Following the dedication ceremony, a free concert featuring the "Quartet of Five" will be held.Those attending the concert are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs.Parking for this event is available on street near the park or at the First Niagara Bank parking lot across Main Street.In the event of rain the dedication ceremony and concert will take place inside St. John's UCC Church, which is to the rear of the park.Light refreshments will still be available for purchase, but after the concert in the basement of the church, as part of a social gathering afterward.The park dedication and free concert are sponsored by Northern Lehigh Future FocusFor further information, contact Robert at (610) 767-7626.
