Weatherly student selected for Merit Scholarship Program

Christopher Hunt, son of Scott and Catherine Hunt, a senior at Weatherly Area High School, has been selected as a semifinalist in the 57th Annual National Merit Scholarship Program.

Semifinalists in the program will have the opportunity to continue in the competition for some 8,300 National Merit Scholarships that will be offered in the spring.The National Merit Scholarship Corporation, a not-for-profit organization that operates without government assistance, underwrites the scholarships with its own funds and by approximately 440 business organizations and other higher education institutions.Hunt has been a consistent Distinguished Honor Roll student throughout his high school career. In addition, he participates in the Interact Club, Scholastic Scrimmage, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), and the Envirothon Team at WHS. He also provides academic tutoring in math and science to fellow high school students.Hunt has also participated in numerous math competitions including the Purple Comet Math Competition, the Bloomsburg University Math Contest, the Lehigh University High School Math Competition, and the Junior Engineering Technical Society (JETS) Competition. Hunt also qualified for the American Invitation Mathematics Examination (AIME). He also won 1st place at the Bucknell University Gold Exam Competition.His future plans include attending an Ivy League University with a major in either Mathematics or Physics.
