If you have wanted to know more about classical music but were afraid to ask you may be interested in attending the not-for-credit course being offered at LCCC's Morgan Center in Tamaqua.

The dates of the programs are Oct. 20 and 27 and Nov. 3.The music will consist of traditional and some not-so traditional performances and will be entertaining as well as informative.The Music Appreciation Series will examine "Unusual Instruments from Crumhorns to Jingling Johnnies" including many examples of instruments with unique sounds on Oct. 20. The program for Oct. 27 is the "Topsy-Turvy World of Gilbert and Sullivan" Examples of most of the dynamic duos comic operas and the stories behind them; also the music of Sir Arthur Sullivan. The final class on Nov. 3 will feature "Music Inspired by Great Works of Literature."The instructor for the course is Barry Gangwer, a life-long classical music enthusiast and a member of the Lehighton Band and Zion Opera Workshop Orchestra specializing in oboe, and English horn. All of the musical examples are drawn from his personal music library of over 4000 recordings. He has given over 30 various music programs for the Weatherly Library, churches and the Tamaqua Spirit of Christmas.This is the second season for this program on appreciation of mainly classical music.
