Palmerton school district reviewing bids for repair work at three facilities

It could cost Palmerton Area School District $157,000 to conduct a water mitigation project at three of its facilities.

Superintendent Carol Boyce said the project entails repairs to the building exteriors, primarily at Parkside Education Center, as well as Towamensing Elementary and the junior high school. The project will include pointing of brick masonry, sealing against water infiltration, and application of coatings, Boyce said.Four companies submitted proposals to the district on Thursday, with Jones Masonry Restoration Corp., of Harrisburg, turning in the apparent low bid of $157,000.That bid was $33,000 less than the next lowest bid of $190,000 turned in by F.J. Lesher General Contractor, Palmerton.Other companies that bid were C&D Waterproofing Corp., of Bloomsburg ($214,000); and Caretti Restoration & Preservation Services, of Berwick ($277,900).The bids will be reviewed before a recommendation is made. A bid award could be made when the school board meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday.Boyce said the work is "part of an ongoing project to make sure the district's infrastructures are well taken care of."The project is included in the list of bond projects after the board agreed last fall to borrow $5 million and restructure its 2006 bond issue.
