Kidder Township Supervisors last night discussed the events surrounding next week's Pennsylvania State Fire Convention being hosted by the Lake Harmony and Albrightsville Volunteer Fire companies.

Township Manager John Finnerty said the entire community has pulled together to make this a welcoming event for the conventioneers attending from around the state. Landscaping and beatification projects started early in the spring when Kidder Township was chosen to be the site for the convention.Lake Harmony Volunteer Fire Department nominated Split Rock Resorts for the James A. Miller Award, which is given to an organization or group that has helped fire services throughout its history. The department was notified that Split Rock will receive the Award. In other business, chairman Larry Polansky addressed a resident's concern about installing a flashing light at the intersection of Lake Drive and North Lake Drive. Last month, Polansky publicly thanked resident Christopher Murphy who drew attention to the hazardous intersection by placing a flashing beacon there to slow down drivers unaware of a hidden stop sign.Murphy and supporters, including local residents and business owners, rallied together and property owners gave PennDOT approval to cut down trees in the affected area. Murphy was not at either meeting but the township manager is continuing to work with PennDOT to ensure the intersection is safe for pedestrians who frequent the businesses there.Kidder Township and Greenwich Insurance Company entered a completion agreement on September 20, 2010 to build a subdivision of homes called Golden Oaks Village. The project was completed as of January 3, 2011, however, outstanding work continues with both parties and residents working under the deadline of a warranty guaranteed on the work by the contractor for 18 months commencing September 2012.Concerns such as dead trees, shoulder grading, adjusting water valve boxes, removing construction debris, swale maintenance and other problems have plagued the completion, angered residents at recent meetings. Supervisors drafted a completion agreement to be considered, amending the original agreement.In other news:• There is an opening on the Planning Commission and interested applicants can contact the township office.• The Kidder Township Comprehensive Plan was mailed August 26 to all interested municipalities and school districts in Carbon County for review and comment. The review period is 45 days. The Planning Commission will advertise a public hearing on the plan prior to the November 2 meeting. Comments taken at the public hearing will then be forwarded to supervisors for consideration. A public meeting will be advertised prior to the November 17 supervisors meeting.• Supervisors granted a one-year extension on the Midlake II Land Development Improvements Agreement. Midlake II, formerly Bolder Lake Village, requested the extension for improvements to its water system backing it with a renewed letter of credit in the amount of $1,202,937 with M&T Bank. The extension is in place until September 12, 2012.• Hanover Engineering did an inspection to observe the completion of land developments at Split Rock Lodge Land Development. It was recommended by Hanover that the township retain $15,000 security which includes the 10 percent required by the Municipality Planning Code. Supervisors agreed.• There is an electronics recycling day scheduled in the township on Sunday September 25th from 9 to 12 Finnerty reported. Computers, cell phones, devices and other items will be accepted.
