The September meeting of the Tamaqua Board of Health was held at the municipal building with Randolph Gormley, James Gormley, Earl Boettger, Shirley Becker, Health Officer Judith Hadesty R.N. and Health Enforcement Officer James Barron in attendance.Barron reportedly made six spot check inspections during August: Happy Endings Inc.; the American Legion; Tiki Inc.; M and I Deli; Mundy's Pub; and the Keystone Fish and Game Club. He also received and adjusted 10 complaints: six concerning rubbish/trash; three infestations; and one strong odor complaint. There were no cases of reportable diseases during the month.The October meeting has been changed. The board will meet Oct. 5, at 10 a.m., in the Tamaqua Municipal Building.Open houseAn Open House has been scheduled at the Tamaqua Area Middle School. Christopher Czapla, middle school principal, has announced the event will be held Sept. 19, beginning at 6:30 p.m.Parents will report to their student's home room, where they will receive a copy of the individual's schedule, as well as the bell schedule for the evening. They will then have the opportunity to meet with teachers and obtain information concerning curriculum and student expectations.Movie nightTamaqua Youth Ministries will present the movie "To Save A Life" on Sept. 25. The movie night will be held at Bethany Evangelical Congregation Church, 223 E. Broad St. and is free.Geared to young people in grades 6 through 12, the film addresses the many challenges teens face today.The presentation will begin at 7 p.m. For further information, call (570) 668-2520.Spirit of ChristmasTamaqua's Spirit of Christmas Committee will meet at 6 p.m. Sept. 20 at the Chamber of Commerce Office, 114 W. Broad St. Plans for the annual Spirit of Christmas weekend-long event will be discussed.New members and ideas are always welcome.St. Peter's UnionThe Rev. Cheryl Moore will officiate at the 9 a.m. worship service Sunday in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. The service will include the dedication of the Sunday School class. Sunday school will be held at 10:15 a.m. Also on Sunday, the church board will meet at 10:45 a.m., the Confirmation class will meet at 1 p.m., Daisies and Brownies meet at 6 p.m.Activities for next week include: Tuesday, theater rehearsal at 6:30 p.m., Women's Association of St. Peter's meets at 7:30 p.m.; Thursday, Prayer group meets at 5 p.m., post picnic committee meets at 7 p.m.The choirs rehearse on Thursdays. Next week's schedule will include: Juniors at 7 p.m.; and Seniors at 7:45 p.m.
