State police at Schuylkill Haven are investigating the theft of a large amount of cash during a burglary in Schuylkill County.

Troopers said the burglary occurred at the residence of Eleanor I. Gicking, 69, of 131 Main St., Seltzer, Norwegian Township. Unknown persons gained entry to the home through an unlocked door.The criminals removed $10,000 in U.S. currency from a locked safe, troopers said. The incident occurred sometime between Sept. 5 and Tuesday, Sept. 13.Troopers are also probing the theft of handguns in another burglary. The home of James Augustus Brauer, of E. Wiconisco St., Tower City, Porter Township, was entered sometime between March 7 and Monday, Sept. 12. Removed were two handguns, a Glock 9mm and a Sig Sauer .380-caliber.Anyone with information concerning these incidents is asked to call troopers at (570) 593-2000.
