Western Schuylkill County, far from recovered

Western Schuylkill County suffered from Thursday's flooding caused by the remnants of Tropical Storm Lee, which hit eastern portions of the state.

More than eight inches of rain drenched the area over a four-day period.In Pine Grove, the Swatara Creek overflowed its banks, causing massive flooding and damage to the area. Many people had to be rescued from their homes when the waters rose to dangerous levels, or from their vehicles after attempting to drive through raging waters. The Air Force National Guard aided local personnel with evacuations.Hundreds of people were temporarily displaced by flooding in Pine Grove and Schuylkill Haven, with about 140 of them taking shelter at the Pine Grove High School with the help of the sheriff's department and local fire departments.
