The Tamaqua Seniors met Sept. 1 at the Tamaqua Community Center. President Jean Machamer conducted the business session and offered an inspirational reading.Rose Valle provided the invocation, entitled "Offer Up A Prayer." Vice President Doris Brobst, Treasurer Dolores Walck and Secretary Joan Ann Garber provided their reports. Refreshments included hot dogs, snacks and beverages.An election of officers will be held in September. Nominations for positions will be accepted at the Sept. 8 meeting.A Health Fair is scheduled for Sept. 21, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Hometown Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Health screenings are free.For more information, call (570) 668-1775.The group meets every Thursday, at 1 p.m., at the community center.Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join. Every meeting is followed by social and pinochle games.Class of 1956The Tamaqua High School Class of 1956 is planning a 55-year anniversary reunion for Sept. 17 at the Top of the 80s Restaurant in West Hazleton. All class members are welcome to attend.For further information, call (570) 645-9961 or (570) 668-2160.Summer concertThe Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce continues its Summer Concert Series this week with a performance by the Christopher Dean Band, a group specializing in blues and soul music.The concert will be held on the platform at the Tamaqua Railroad Station, from 6-8 p.m.Bring a lawn chair or blanket and enjoy an evening of free musical entertainment.The series will end with a Sept. 22 concert by the Todd Wolfe Band, playing the blues.For more information, call (570) 668-1880.St. Peter's UnionThe Rev. Cheryl Moore will officiate at the 9 a.m. worship service Sunday in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville.The service will include the Festival of Harvest Home, a Joyous Noise Offering and Sunday School promotions. Summer Sunday school will be held at 10:15 a.m. Also on Sunday, the cantata "Homeland" will be presented at 3 p.m.On Sept. 10, an old fashion picnic will be hled from noon to 6 p.m.Activities for next week include: Monday, food co-op meets at 9 a.m.; Tuesday, theatre rehearsal at 6:30 p.m.; Wednesday, Retirees meet at 10 a.m.; Thursday, Prayer group meets at 5 p.m., Confirmation class meets at 6:30 p.m.; Saturday, Queens of Crop scrapbooking group will meet at 8 a.m.The choirs rehearse on Thurswdays. Next week's schedule will include: Cherubs at 6:30 p.m.; Juniors at 7 p.m.; and Seniors at 7:45 p.m.
