Ruth Essington, right, receives a surprise ice cream sundae at her home from Kim Snyder, current president of the North and Middle Ward Playground Association in Tamaqua.Essington served as pastpresident and remained active with the playground from the 1960's to late 90's. Essington also actively volunteered with Meals on Wheels and was the local disaster volunteer for the Red Cross for many years.
