The Tamaqua Seniors met Aug. 25 at the Tamaqua Community Center with 86 members in attendance. One guest, Gladys Neff, was welcomed.President Jean Machamer conducted the business session and offered an inspirational reading. Rose Valle provided the invocation, entitled "Laugh at the Clouds." Vice President Doris Brobst and Secretary Joan Ann Garber provided their reports. An election of officers will be held in September.Guests speakers were Sally Mitchell and Jennifer Parker. Their topic center on the services provided by the Westwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.The group meets every Thursday, at 1 p.m., at the community center. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join. Every meeting is followed by social and pinochle games.SS. Peter and PaulSS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church will conduct First Friday observances this week. Communion calls will be made on Thursday for residents of Hometown and Coaldale. All others will begin Friday at 9 a.m. First Friday confessions will be heard at 7:30 a.m., followed by Mass and devotions at 8 a.m.Sept. 3 will be a Fatima Saturday. Confessions will be heard at 7:30 a.m., followed by a Recitation of the Rosary and Devotions prior to the 8 a.m. Mass.Members of the parish Holy Rosary Society will attend the 8 a.m. Mass on Sept. 4 and receive Holy Communion as a group. A rosary will be said prior to the Mass.Mass on Labor Day will be celebrated at 8 a.m.The Anniversary Committee will meet Sept. 12, at 7 p.m.Cross countryThe Tamaqua Cross Country Boosters will meet Aug. 31, at 6 p.m., at the senior high school.Anyone interested in supporting the teams is welcome to attend.Class of 1956The Tamaqua High School Class of 1956 is planning a 55-year anniversary reunion for Sept. 17 at the Top of the 80s Restaurant in West Hazleton.
