Lansford man gets prison time for assault of woman

A Lansford man was sentenced to a prison term on Thursday in Carbon County court for threatening and assaulting a woman in his home.

George Heffelfinger, 36, was sentenced by Judge Steven R. Serfass to serve six to one day less 24 months in prison on one count each of terroristic threats and simple assault.Heffelfinger was arrested for an incident on Dec. 14, 2010, at a residence along W. Kline Avenue. He was accused of assaulting a female during which he ripped off her clothing and threatened her. When she attempted to leave the residence he dragged her back inside by the hair, the police report stated.Heffelfinger attempted to blame the incident on the victim saying she was intoxicated at the time and that he was attempting to defend himself. But Serfass didn't buy that excuse. He told Heffelfinger, "So this is all her fault?" Serfass then added, "There is no justification for what you did here."In addition to the prison term Serfass ordered Heffelfinger to have no contact with the victim, attend and complete anger management counseling sessions, render three hours of community service per month while on parole, zero tolerance imposed on drug or alcohol use, pay court costs and a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole. He will begin the jail term at 9 a.m. on Sept. 2. He was granted work release privileges.
