The Tamaqua Seniors met Aug. 18 at the Tamaqua Community Center with 84 members in attendance. President Jean Machamer conducted the business session.Rose Valle provided the invocation, entitled "God's Paintbrush."Vice President Doris Brobst reported sending get well cards to Jane Springer and Jean Yanick and Doris Pierce was added to the sick list. Secretary Joan Ann Garber provided her report.A wrap up discussion was held on the trip to the Yuengling Brewery and Grandma's Restaurant.The group meets every Thursday, at 1 p.m., at the community center. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join.Every meeting is followed by social and pinochle games.Financial seminarIndividuals and families will have the opportunity to learn ways to prepare for financial security as the Tamaqua Salvation Army offers a free preview of Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace Seminar.The free session will be held Aug. 25, at 6 p.m. Participants will also be eligible for a free Financial Peace University membership.Following the preview, regular classes will begin Sept. 8.All sessions will be held at the Salvation Army, 105 W. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Nursery care is provided. Sunday school classes meet at 9:30 a.m.Also on Sunday, TYM will get "Up Close and Personal" at 6 p.m.Activities for next week will include: Tuesday, Prayer time at 8:30 a.m.; Wednesday, TYM ,prayer and Bible study all meet at 6:30 p.m.; Saturday, Men's Breakfast at 8 a.m.Spay/neuter clinicThe Tamaqua Area Animal Rescue group is planning a low cost spay/neuter/rabies clinic for cats for the end of August.For more information, call (570) 527-6808.End of summerThe North and Middle Ward Playground Association will sponsor an end of summer party this Saturday, from 6-9 p.m.The event is free and open to all ages.Music will be provided by a deejay and there will be a dance contest.Summer concertThe Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce continues its Summer Concert Series this week with a performance by Lizard Creek, a group specializing in Celtic music.The concert will be held on the platform at the Tamaqua Railroad Station, from 6-8 p.m.Bring a lawn chair or blanket and enjoy an evening of free musical entertainment.For more information, call (570) 668-1880.
