Sewer authority

The office of the Coaldale/Lansford/Summit Hill Sewer Authority will be closed Monday, Aug. 29 through Wednesday, Aug. 31. The office will reopen on Thursday, Sept. 1, at the new location, 162 W. Ridge St., Lansford, Pa. 18232. Please be advised that animals will not be allowed on authority property.NesquehoningVFW Ladies AuxiliaryThe annual picnic meeting of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary to Nesquehoning Memorial VFW Post 8008 took place on Aug. 9, in the social hall of the Post Home. President Amanda Breiner presided at the session.The annual fall conference will be held in Harrisburg Sept. 16-18.The Walnutport Post and Auxiliary will host the Sept. 18 District 20 meeting at 2 p.m. Department Commander Larry Reece's Testimonial Banquet will be held in Harrisburg Oct. 28-29. The National President's visit to Pennsylvania will be held Oct. 10-12 in the Harrisburg area. The Statue of Liberty celebration will be held in New York City on Oct. 28, before the renovations of Lady Liberty.Sept. 16 is POW/MIA Remembrance Day. September is "Suicide Awareness Month" for our troops and veterans.A Miller Bloodmobile collection will be held at the Post Home on Aug. 31 from 3:30-7 p.m. Membership quota for 2012 is 70. The 2012 dues are now being collected. Candle sheets were distributed and are to be returned by Sept. 30.Donations were made to the Erie Diabetes Walk, the National President's visit to Pa., the Voice of Democracy Scholarship Fund and the Patriot's Pen Scholarship Fund.Following the meeting, a picnic meal was enjoyed by all. The next meeting will be 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 13, at the post home, beginning at 6:30 p.m. All members are invited to attend.St. John'sOn Wednesdays at 7 p.m. St. John's Lutheran Church, 1 E. Abbott St., Lansford, holds an informal worship: a spiritual, peaceful evening service with Holy Communion.
