One of the new recruits for first year Temple University football coach Steve Addazio has Tamaqua ties.

Jon Christopher, a wide receiver at Dayton Beach High School in Dayton Beach, Fla., got a full football scholarship to Temple.Christopher is the son of Louann and John Christopher of Ormond Beach, Fla. Louann is the former Louann DeWire of Tamaqua. The new Temple recruit is the grandson of Bud and Louise DeWire of Tamaqua and his aunt and uncle, Bud and Nadine DeWire, who reside in Clamtown.Christopher originally committed to NAIA Lindenwood (Mo.) College. But in April he got a call from Sean Cronin, who had recruited Christopher at Marshall before joining Addazio's staff at Temple, offering him a full ride, which Christopher accepted.
