Kayaker injured on Lehigh

A young man was injured Sunday afternoon when involved in an accident while kayaking along the Lehigh River just north of Jim Thorpe. The incident began at 12:30 p.m. when it was reported a kayaker was injured in a set of rapids along the Lehigh River North of Jim Thorpe and south of the area of the Glen Onoko Falls. Firefighters from Jim Thorpe and Lehighton were dispatched to the scene. Before rescuers could place a craft into the waters a group with a rafting company rescued the man and took him to an area where firemen and ambulance personnel were located. In minutes they brought the victim up to the area of the hiking path along the river. He was treated at the scene by members of the Jim Thorpe ambulance and Lehighton paramedics before being transported to Gnaden Huetten hospital. Efforts to reach Jim Thorpe Fire Chief Bill Diehm for further information were unsuccessful early Monday.
