Drug arrests reported

Several drug-related arrests were reported by Pocono Mountain Regional police.

Police said on Aug. 13 about 3:16 a.m. officers stopped to check a vehicle parked on the side of SR940 just before Heath Lane. While speaking with the driver, identified as Jose Velasquez, 35, of Bronx, N.Y., officers observed a bag of suspected marijuana behind the passenger seat.Police were given consent to search the vehicle and discovered numerous bags of marijuana, heroin and a large sum of U.S. currency. During an interview Velasquez admitted to bringing the drugs to the area for an unnamed party.Velasquez was charged with possession with intent to deliver and was a placed in the count prison in Snydersville pending arraignment.Police said on Aug. 9 about 8:54 p.m. they observed a suspicious vehicle parked at the lake pull off on Holiday Drive, in the Stillwater Lakes Civic Association Community. Officers identified the driver as Anisa Damiano, 20, of Pocono Summit.Officers smelled the strong odor of burnt marijuana. A further investigation revealed Damiano to be in possession of drug paraphernalia, including a wooden grinder containing a small amount of marijuana.He was placed under arrest on drug counts, police said.On July 3 about 11 a.m. police responded to a domestic dispute at the Schmitt residence along SR115 near Murphy's Loft. At the scene the girlfriend of James Schmitt, 54, Blakeslee, who was not identified by police, told officers he was growing marijuana plants behind his home.An investigation revealed marijuana plants in the wooded area. Schmitt was placed under arrest and charged with possession with intent to manufacture, possession and possession of drug paraphernalia.
