What to wear, and what not
Below is the list of items of dress and grooming that are not acceptable in school during the school day in the Palmerton Area School District:
- No clothing or tattoos related to sexual content, nudity, vulgarity, obscenity, profanity, in any language, or with double-meaning pictures, symbols or slogans, including those related to alcohol, tobacco, drugs, weapons or violent acts.- If footwear is designed to have laces, the laces must be in the footwear and tied; no footwear with heels greater than three (3) inches in height; no flip-flops/thongs; bedroom-like and soft-sole slippers; or roller shoes and other hazardous footwear.- No clothing that is torn, cut, or ripped.- No spandex, leggings (unless worn under an article of clothing that complies with the dress code); stirrup pants or bike shorts.- No see-through garments.- No clothing intended as undergarments may be worn as outer garments; no displaying of undergarments at any time; no pajama or sleepwear tops/bottoms, as well as boxer-type (underwear) shorts are permitted.- No outerwear, including hoodies (with the exception of K-6); sunglasses; hats; scarves; gloves and other head coverings (including baseball caps, bandannas, etc.). These items should be placed in lockers, closets or other designated areas, and may not be worn in the building.- No midriff-baring clothing or cleavage-showing tops, including, but not limited to, tube tops; or low-cut scoop neck tops; tank tops; halter-style tops; spaghetti straps; open backs; sleeveless shirts or hooded garments (with the exception of K-6); no off the shoulder garments.- No oversized or tight fitting clothing.- Adornments, clothing or hairstyles which prevent the student from achieving his/her own or any other students' educational objectives because of blocked vision or restricted movement are prohibited.- No unnatural hair colors (red, blue, yellow, green, orange, purple, etc.), or excessive/extreme styles.- No dresses, shorts, skorts, skirts that are more than three (3) inches above the knee measured from the top of the knee.- No exposed body-piercing jewelry other than in ears. Gauges are not permitted.- No chains other than those designated as a bracelet or necklace; none of the following: wallet chains, dog collars, or spike bracelets/necklaces. Any jewelry that could be deemed as unsafe or used as a weapon is prohibited.- No apparel or usage of apparel characteristically associated with gang affiliation.- No medical-type scrubs.Exceptions to any of these guidelines may be made for medical or religious reasons, and must be referred to the building principal in writing prior to wearing.Parents/guardians should understand that they may be asked to bring a change of clothing to school for students who are in violation of this policy.Source:
