DUI arrests reported

State police at Lehighton reported on two driving under the influence (DUI) arrests made in separate incidents.

Troopers said on Sunday, Aug. 14, about 1:30 a.m. Timothy J. Schmid, 21, of Kunkletown, was driving southbound on SR534 in Polk Township, just south of the line with Carbon County, when his vehicle spun out of control and struck a utility pole.Schmid was taken into custody for DUI. While taking him into custody troopers found drug paraphernalia on his person. He was taken to the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg, for a blood test. The DUI charge is pending the test results.The second arrest occurred about 4:50 p.m. on Aug. 9. Troopers said they responded to 706 Lincoln Ave., in Bowmanstown, for a person that had possibly overdosed at the wheel of her vehicle.On scene troopers found Shaina Louise Haas, 22, of Lehighton. She was placed under arrest and transported to the Palmerton hospital for a blood test.
