The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has ordered the borough of Lehighton to remove a downtown traffic light, but borough officials are hoping they can convince PennDOT to change its mind. The traffic light is located at the intersection of South First and Iron streets. Mortimer Smedley, borough manager, believes the light is a necessity and is urging area residents to sign a petition to retain it. The petition will be presented to PennDOT.
