Schuylkill crashes

State police at Frackville reported on two crashes investigated by troopers, both occurring on Saturday, Aug. 6.

A crash occurred about 1:02 p.m. along SR61 in the area of the Hess service station in West Mahanoy Township, just outside Frackville. Troopers said Ted Kaliher, 80, of Frackville, was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado truck northbound and failed to observe a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix driven by Nicholas Lee Ortiz, 21, of Virginia Beach, Va., who had pulled out from the Technology Drive to go north on 61.The front of the truck hit the rear of the car, troopers said. Two passengers with Kaliher - Austin Kaliher, 19, and Alice Kaliher, 80, were not injured as was Ortiz. Kaliher, however, sustained facial injuries and was taken to a Pottsville hospital for treatment.The second crash occurred about 2:16 p.m. along SR4033, 500 feet north of the Shenandoah Fish & Game Club, in Union Township. Troopers said Joseph Webb, 33, Zion Grove, was driving a 1995 Chevrolet Monte Carlo northbound when the vehicle went onto the berm and struck the guide rail on the right side of the road.Webb sustained a minor injury but did not require immediate medical attention. The car had to be towed from the scene.Troopers said Webb will be cited for several motor vehicle code violations.
