Traces of oil discharge into the Lehigh River

In a repeat of a similar situation that occurred a few years ago, traces of oil have been discovered discharging into the Lehigh River from the mouth of Mauch Chunk Creek in Jim Thorpe.

After the current discovery, the Carbon County EMA installed three booms and absorbent materials to try and contain the oil and prevent it from entering the river.The State DEP has now taken charge of the situation and is investigating the the source of the discharge into the creek.
