Plight of the Tamaqua taxpayer

Dear Editor:

Everyone has heard that there are approximately 70 homes apartments and businesses that are not hooked-up to the Tamaqua borough sewer lines. People have paid sewer bills for the past 50 years thinking they were.Services were not received, sewage was not treated, it merely flowed through two natural waterways - the Panther Creek and the Wabash Creek until it reached the Schuylkill River. The borough's own public library is not connected to the sewer system. Other hookups were questioned including the post office but no answers were received from the borough council at their July 19, 2011 meeting. Additional contamination is also flowing into both creeks from other communities and from two mining operations located at opposite ends of Tamaqua. When council was asked about the issue of the acid water, we again did not receive an answer.Where are our policital leaders, Jerry Knowles, Dave Argall and Tim Holden? We have been hung out to dry by the borough of Tamaqua and WE NEED YOUR ASSISTANCE!!!!!!!!What has the borough done with all of the fees they have collected over the years for the sewage they never treated? Should they not pay the people back for the services they never received? We are expected to pay thousands of dollars $6,500. to $25,000 to hook to the sewer out of our own pockets after paying the borough for 50 years the fees required quarterly for services that were not provided. This compares to paying a cable bill but not owning a tv. Please help us!!! Call your state representative, knowles, your senators Argall and Holden.Thank youAnna Brose,Daniel Lattanziand other Tamaqua sewer customersnot receiving servicesBUT PAYINGFOR THEM.
