An American Red Cross Bloodmobile visited Tamaqua on July 20, collecting 48 units of the "gift of life." Two first time donors, Deanna Hill and Olga Rosado, participated.Local volunteers assisting Red Cross personnel were Jean Stevens, Dolly Shirey and Bob Shirey. The Salvation Army gym was transformed into a blood collection center through the efforts of Randy Gormley, Bob Zeplin, Jack Quinn, Mike Trubilla and Joe Rimm.This visit was sponsored by the Tamaqua Salvation Army.Vets groupAn effort is under way to form a club for veterans who served in the Iraq and Afghanistan theaters of operation. An initial planning session will be held Aug. 9, at 7:30 p.m., at the West Penn Community Park.For more information, contact Eugene at (570) 386-3224.Rush taxesThe office of Rush Township Tax Collector Dolores Walck will be closed Aug. 16, from 9 to 11 a.m. The office will be open that day from 6-8 p.m.Additionally, as stated on the tax bills, the office will be closed on Aug. 9-10.First MethodistThe Rev. James Cavellero will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service this Sunday in First United Methodist Church. Sunny Stock will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Zion Church in the Lewistown Valley. A children's service will be included. Sunday school classes will be held at 9:30 a.m.Zion's will sponsor a Miller-Keystone Bloodmobile, in honor of Harold HT Fryer, this Sunday from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. The event will be held in the social hall, behind the church.
