Tamaqua woman facing charges

A Tamaqua woman ran afoul of the law twice last week and is now facing a host of charges in connection with two incidents.

Amber Strohl, 28, of 44 Mauch Chunk St., was cited last Wednesday, July 27, for simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct after she was observed chasing James Druding, same address, with a frying pan. Druding was bleeding from a wound to his left ear. Parts of the altercation were witnessed at 11:03 a.m. by an off duty police officer. On Sunday, at 2:10 a.m., officers received a report concerning a stolen purse. The purse was owned by a Nicole Ems Lang, who related to officers that she had been a patron at Freddy's Pub and had left her purse unattended on the bar for a few minutes. A female patron with red hair and tattoos allegedly took the purse. Approximately one hour later officers received a tip that the red haired female was Strohl. They went to her apartment and found the door standing ajar. No one answered the officers' knocks and shouts.Once inside the apartment Strohl was found on the floor and Druding was asleep on a sofa. Next to Strohl was Lang's driver's license. With Druding's consent officers searched the apartment and discovered several other items with Lang's name on them as well as the stolen purse.Strohl initially told officers that Lang had been in her apartment and left the items behind but Durding disputed those statements. When officers attempted to take Strohl into custody she resisted, kicking at and punching at three different officers. A taser was deployed to gain control and Strohl was transported to the police station. As she was being taken to a holding cell she again became combatative and had to be tasered.Charges include theft, receiving stolen property, simple assault, resisting arrest and harassment.
