Benefit slated for Slatington family who lost infant daughter in accident

A benefit for a Slatington family who recently lost their infant daughter will be held this weekend in Palmerton.

Pride and Passion Grooming Shoppe in Palmerton, located at 413 Delaware Avenue will host a Dog Wash from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. All proceeds will benefit Mark Gunkel and Dana Frisk, the parents of infant Katrina Gunkel, who was driving with her parents on July 18 in North Whitehall Township in Lehigh County when their minivan was tragically struck by a pick-up truck, killing Katrina.Faced with extensive surgeries, long physical recoveries and the emotional pain of Katrina's loss, Mark and Dana sure could use the help, said Cheryl Wiegand, owner of Pride and Passion."They own a business next to me, Kidz Corner, and I just wanted to do something for them," Wiegand said. "I just really wanted to do something to help them out for their medical bills."Wiegand said that for $30, Pride and Passion Grooming Shoppe will bathe and dry pets with one of their all natural yummy smelling shampoos, dry from head to toe and finish with a complementing spritz."Nothing with really long or heavily matted coats; we want to do as many dogs as we possibly can, and sometimes those require a lot more work than just a bath and a dry," she said. "We would like them to be current on vaccinations, so proof of vaccinations would be required."Wiegand said there is an account that's been set up at Wells Fargo Bank for contributions and donations. Donations will be accepted the day of the event, she said.To schedule a time for your pet, call 610-824-7900 for more information.Walk-ins will also be accepted.
