Successful VBS

Up to 50 children attended the recent Vacation Bible School at Effort UMC, which looked at the life of Jesus as a youth. The Rev. Robin Fisher, pastor of the church, credited the leadership of Deb Audet and the volunteers for the successful program.At 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 5 there will be a Youth Mission trip presentation. Pictures and personal stories from the trip to West Virginia will be shared.Wildlife rescue visitBoard of directors and staff members of Penn State Extension in Monroe County recently had an educational visit to the Pocono Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. Katherine Dubin Uhler led the tour of the rescue home for wildlife, explaining many things about her work and the animals that the center rehabilitates and releases or keeps for educational events.The center services six counties and cares for more than 1,000 wild animals of all species during the year. In addition to the tour, the board held a short meeting to conduct the local extension office business.Caregiver's supportThe Loder Building in East Stroudsburg is the site for a local Caregiver's Support Group today from 6-8 p.m.Sponsored in conjunction with the Alzheimer's Association, this is an opportunity to get some support from trained facilitators and to share one's experiences with other caregivers.PVEN board meetsThe Board of Directors for the Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network will meet at 9 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 4 at Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville.Knit & Crochet groupAs Effort UMC has a Prayer Shawl Ministry, with several hundred prayer shawls already given to those who need the comfort, so Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville has a Knit & Crochet Group that makes helmet liners, preemie caps, baby blankets and prayer shawls. It will meet at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 9.Seniors meetThe Chestnuthill Senior Center meets every Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.Drive to End HungerThe Effort UMC food pantry will be participating in the Drive to End Hunger, which is sponsored by the Jeff Gordon Race team.Gordon's car will be at the Shop Rite in Mount Pocono from 2-6 p.m., Aug. 4, where SFRC volunteers will pick up donated foods to bring back to the Supplemental Family Resource Center at the church.PV School BoardThe Pleasant Valley School District Board of Education will meet at 8 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 11, at the district office in Brodheadsville.Lion board meetsThe Western Pocono Lions Club Board of Directors will meet at 7 o'clock tonight at the Western Pocono Community Library in Brodheadsville. All Lions are welcome.
