The Tamaqua Senior Citizens met last week with 82 members in attendance. One new member, Marie Williams, and one guest, Jan Cavarella, were welcomed.The business meeting was conducted by President Jean Machamer and Rose Vallee provided the invocation, entitled "It Only Takes A Moment." Jane Springer was added to the sick list, while it was reported that Alice Miller and Doris Brobst are recuperating at their homes.Secretary Joan Anne Garber provided her report. Plans for visits to the Yuengling Brewery and Grandma's Restaurant were discussed. June and July birthdays will be celebrated at the July 28 meeting.Pizza and soda were served, followed by social games.The group meets every Thursday, at 1 p.m., at the Tamaqua Community Center, located to the rear of Boyer's Market. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join. The meeting room is handicap accessible.Bethany ECThe Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Sunday school classes will meet at 9:30 a.m.Also on Sunday, the Tamaqua Youth Ministry will get "up close and personal" at 6 p.m.Activities for next week will include: Tuesday, Prayer time at 8:30 a.m. and Playground Pals meet at 11:30 a.m. at the South Ward Playground; Wednesday, Waterside Whistle Stop at 2:30 p.m. at the bungalow, prayer, Bible study and TYM meet at 6:30 p.m.Movie nightThe East End Playground Association will continue its tradition of offering free summer movies. The next event will be Aug. 1, with a presentation of the movie "Secretariat," beginning at 8:30 p.m.The event is free and open to the public. Moviegoers are welcome to bring a blanket or lawn chair and the concession stand will be open.
