Robert Hines receives award for helping educate PV of needs of the homeless

Left, Dr. Douglas Arnold, superintendent of Pleasant Valley School District, presented Robert Hines, associate principal of PVHS, with the Pennsylvania Homeless Children's Initiative Region 7 Homeless Advocate of 2010 Award. The award was for Region 7 (made up of Luzerne, Lackawanna, Pike, Monroe, Wyoming, Wayne, Carbon, Columbia, Northumberland, Bradford, Tioga, Lycoming, Sullivan, Susquehanna, Montour, Snyder, and Union Counties. It is issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Education/Bureau of Teaching and Learning/Division of Student Services. According to Hines, Monroe County has the highest homeless population in Region 7. He believes the award was presented due to PVSD's improvement in educating faculty and staff for awareness of the needs of the homeless as well as improving the identification of homeless in the Registration Office.
